A brazen armed robbery that left a convenience store in Laurel, Maryland, shaken has landed its perpetrator, 22-year-old Clarence Antonio Lynch, with a life sentence.
On August 4, 2023, Lynch, a resident of Prince George’s County, Maryland, stormed a convenience store in a dark-colored sports utility vehicle, intent on relieving it of its valuables. Armed with at least one firearm, Lynch used physical restraint to force an agent and employee into an office, where he broke the employee’s necklace and used a hydraulic tool to open the store’s automated teller machine (ATM).
According to the guilty plea, Lynch made off with a staggering $65,780 in cash from the ATM’s trays, as well as $6,940 in cash and $11,852 in cigarettes from the store office. Both the cash and cigarettes were property of Business-1, and the ATM cash was also property of a financial institution.
Lynch’s crimes have earned him a minimum mandatory sentence of five years and a maximum of life in federal prison, followed by up to five years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Lydia K. Griggsby scheduled sentencing for September 2, 2025, at 1 p.m.
U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes commended the FBI and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work in the investigation, thanking Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua Rosenthal and William Moomau for prosecuting the case.
