A Lincoln man has been sentenced to 45 months in prison for violating a federal firearm law and for a supervised release violation, announced U.S. Attorney Lesley A. Woods today.

Cleophus Collier, 35, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced on February 12, 2026, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska, for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down the sentence.

Collier is a three-time convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. On February 12, 2026, he removed a backpack from his body and placed it on the ground next to him during an encounter with law enforcement, who had a warrant for his arrest related to a federal supervised release violation. Inside the backpack, a loaded Springfield XDS and seven rounds of .45 ammunition were discovered. The firearm was found to be stolen out of Omaha in 2016.

This case was investigated by the Metro Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service. Collier’s supervised release was also revoked and he was sentenced to an additional 12 months and one day imprisonment to run consecutively to his 45-month sentence.

Collier will serve a total of 57 months in prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release after his release. His supervised release will be overseen by the U.S. Probation Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska reminds the public that a felony conviction can carry with it a host of collateral consequences, including but not limited to, prohibition from possessing firearms, voting rights, and certain professional licensing restrictions.
