Cletus Davis, Distribution of Crack Cocaine, Arkansas 2013

A Hot Springs resident has been sentenced to prison for distributing crack cocaine in the city. On August 15, 2014, Cletus Davis, age 39, pleaded guilty to two counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Crack Cocaine in the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas in Texarkana.

According to court records, during an ongoing investigation, detectives with the Hot Springs Police Department Street Crimes Unit arranged for a controlled purchase of crack cocaine from Cletus Davis in exchange for U.S. currency on two separate occasions in August 2013. The substance was field tested and showed to be positive for cocaine, and the Arkansas State Crime Lab confirmed it to be cocaine base.

Cletus Davis has a history of felony drug offenses, with three previous convictions between 1997 and 2007. Despite this, he continued to distribute crack cocaine, putting the community at risk.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, Conner Eldridge, commented on the case, stating, Those who bring illegal drugs onto our streets threaten our communities and the families that live in them. Hot Springs, one of Arkansas’s most beautiful cities, has been plagued by violence escalated by this criminal activity.

Cletus Davis was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release on the two counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Crack Cocaine. This case was investigated by the Hot Springs Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney David Harris prosecuting the case for the United States.

The Hot Springs community is relieved that this case has been brought to a close, and justice has been served. The sentencing of Cletus Davis serves as a reminder that the distribution of crack cocaine will not be tolerated in our city.
