Calvin Rembert, Carjacking, Ohio 2015

CLEVELAND – In a relentless pursuit of justice, a federal court in Ohio has sentenced Calvin Rembert, 23, to 70 months in prison for his involvement in a chilling carjacking incident that took place in the Tremont neighborhood on July 25, 2015. David A. Sierleja, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, and Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Cleveland office, announced the sentence.

Rembert was among a group of defendants convicted in connection with a series of carjackings that terrorized the city during the summer of 2015. Alongside Rembert were D’wan Dillard, Jr., Tervon’tae Taylor, Kenneth Jackson, and Antowine Palmer, all facing their own sentences for various roles in the crime spree. Dillard, 21, was handed a sentence exceeding 16 years in federal prison.

Sierleja emphasized the gravity of Rembert’s actions, stating, “This defendant used violence to rob someone working hard to provide for himself. We will continue to use every statute available to lock up violent predators.” Anthony echoed this sentiment, underscoring the dedication of the Violent Crime Task Force and local partners in combating heinous acts of violence against citizens.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kelly Galvin and Robert Patton are handling the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cleveland Division of Police. The sentences reflect the community’s demand for a safer city, as law enforcement agencies remain committed to aggressively pursuing those who engage in violent crime.

As Rembert begins his sentence, the victims and the city of Cleveland await closure from the ongoing trials of Taylor, Jackson, and Palmer, while Dillard serves out his term. The court’s decision marks a significant victory for justice and sends a clear message that carjacking and other violent crimes will not be tolerated.
