Clifton Yazzie, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Arizona 2022

A convicted sex offender in Arizona has been sentenced to 39 months in prison for failing to register and violating his supervised release, according to a recent sentencing order.

Clifton Yazzie, 38, of Fort Defiance, Arizona, was sentenced by U.S. District Chief Judge G. Murray Snow on Monday to 30 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender. He received an additional 18 months in prison for violating his supervised release in a related case.

At sentencing, Chief Judge Snow ordered that Yazzie serve 9 months for his supervised release violation after completing his sentence for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, for a total of 39 months in prison.

Yazzie was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender for life. In order to protect the public, the conditions of supervision include that Yazzie participate in a sex offender treatment program and live at a residence preapproved by his probation officer, as well as restrictions on his involvement in certain vocational and volunteer activities.

The United States Marshals Service conducted the investigation in this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine D. Keller, District of Arizona, Phoenix, handled the prosecution.

Yazzie’s conviction stems from his failure to register as a sex offender, a requirement for those convicted of sex crimes. He previously pleaded guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and admitted to violating his supervised release.
