CLINT EDWARDS, a 28-year-old New Windsor man, has been charged with threatening a federal judge and prosecutor in New York.
According to court documents, EDWARDS disrupted a sentencing proceeding at a federal court in New York on November 30, 2018, by threatening to assault, murder, and otherwise harm the United States District Judge and the Assistant United States Attorney who were present.
Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, stated that the safety of prosecutors and federal judges is of paramount importance, and any threats made against them will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
EDWARDS faces one count of threatening to assault and murder a United States judge and one count of threatening to assault and murder a federal law enforcement officer, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The case is being handled by the Office’s General Crimes Unit, with Assistant United States Attorney Peter J. Davis in charge of the prosecution.
The charges against EDWARDS are mere accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
U.S. Marshals Service and the Special Agents of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York have been praised for their outstanding investigative work in this case.
