DAVENPORT, Iowa – In a chilling testament to the depths of depravity, Eric Jensen Salter, 37, of Clinton, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for receipt and attempted production of child pornography.
According to court documents and evidence presented at his sentencing, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received CyberTips indicating that an account linked to Salter contained files of child sexual abuse material. A raid on Salter’s residence in Clinton uncovered electronic devices brimming with explicit content involving prepubescent children.
Further investigation revealed a sinister exchange through Salter’s email, detailing his attempts to persuade a 16-year-old female into engaging in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of creating visual depictions. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was instrumental in uncovering this despicable communication between May and October 2018.
Salter will serve the lengthy sentence before being placed on a decade-long supervised release, with no possibility of parole under the federal system. He has also been ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse online. It involves collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies in identifying and prosecuting such crimes.
