Cocaine Kingpin Caught in Alabama

A Virginia man, WILLIAM RONDELL HOLMES, 35, of Chesapeake, Va., has been indicted for possessing more than a pound of cocaine in Greene County, Alabama.

The indictment, filed in U.S. District Court, charges Holmes with possessing 500 grams or more of cocaine on January 23. The discovery was made after an Alabama State Trooper stopped Holmes for speeding on Interstate 59.

The cocaine, valued at over $1 million, was seized by authorities during the traffic stop. Holmes, if convicted, faces a sentence of five to 40 years in prison and a maximum fine of $5 million.

A federal grand jury handed down the indictment, which was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Robert O. Posey and Drug Enforcement Administration Assistant Special Agent in Charge Bret Hamilton.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency collaborated on the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Austin Shutt prosecuting the case.

It’s essential to note that an indictment only contains charges, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The case is ongoing, and Holmes is currently awaiting trial.
