A Macon resident, Roderick Chester, was sentenced to 420 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.

Chester, 34, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm after a three-day trial on August 25. He was sentenced on February 2 by U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell.

Chester was part of a larger network of 19 defendants indicted in a federal court after an investigation into drug trafficking in and around motels in the Eisenhower Parkway corridor.

The FBI and Bibb County Sheriff’s Office worked together to unravel the methamphetamine trafficking ring, which involved individuals with violent criminal backgrounds. The investigation revealed that the network distributed more than 4.5 kilograms of “ice” methamphetamine.

Chester was a methamphetamine supplier in Macon and was observed supplying the drug to co-defendant Carlos Brown, who sold it to a confidential source during three controlled buys. Agents intercepted Chester’s phone calls and text messages by wiretap, which revealed further methamphetamine distribution activities by Chester.

At the time of his arrest, Chester had $15,000 cash and a firearm in his possession. He had previously been convicted of aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a peace officer, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

Chester will serve 420 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release. His co-defendants, Tamara Fryer and Milton Hill, are awaiting sentencing for their roles in the methamphetamine trafficking ring.

The investigation into the methamphetamine trafficking ring was part of Operation Extended Stay by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in Georgia.
