Meth Trafficking Ring Busted in Waycross, GA
A massive methamphetamine trafficking ring operating in the Waycross, Georgia area has been broken up, with the last of the defendants sentenced to prison time. The ring, led by Stephen Miles, 30, was responsible for distributing large quantities of the highly addictive drug throughout the Ware and Brantley County areas.
According to evidence presented during the sentencing hearings, Miles, 30, was the leader and organizer of the methamphetamine trafficking ring. In January 2012, undercover purchases of methamphetamine were made from members of the conspiracy, and eventually, investigating agents executed search warrants where a weapon and a significant amount of methamphetamine were seized.
Charles W. Johns, 60, of Hoboken, Georgia, was sentenced to 78 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy. Johns is the husband of Pamela Moore, 45, who was also sentenced to 48 months in prison. Corey B. Perkins, 33, received a 37-month sentence, while Anna Hambrick, 28, was given a 20-month sentence.
The investigation of the case was led by the DEA and the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office. The GBI and the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Carlton Bourne prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
The sentencing of the last defendants marks the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into the methamphetamine trafficking ring. The convictions and sentences handed down to the defendants serve as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in such illicit activities.
First Assistant United States Attorney James D. Durham praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case, saying, ‘The sentencing of these defendants is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement and the prosecutors who brought them to justice.’
