ALBANY, Ga. – Cornelius Leonard, also known as “Tae,” a 29-year-old man from Grantville, Georgia, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for leading an armed drug trafficking organization that distributed over 250 kilograms of methamphetamine in west central Georgia.
Leonard pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, distribution of methamphetamine, and conspiracy to tamper with a witness. He is not eligible for parole. The investigation, which involved federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, was a lengthy and complex effort to dismantle a significant criminal organization.
“Cornelius Leonard and those involved in pushing more than 250 kilograms of methamphetamine into Thomaston and Columbus have been held accountable for their part in this armed drug trafficking organization causing harm in these communities,” said U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary.
The investigation and prosecution were the result of collaboration between many law enforcement agencies dedicated to securing communities. The coordinated efforts achieved a significant sentence and closed a major pipeline for dangerous drugs in Georgia.
Several co-defendants have been sentenced, including Pedro Barragan Valencia, 47, of Calhoun, Georgia, who was sentenced to serve 400 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. Ramone Zorn, 54, of Thomaston, was sentenced to 300 months in prison for distribution of methamphetamine, and Kedric Fuller, 43, of Woodbury, Georgia, was sentenced to 180 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.
The sentencing serves as a warning to those who bring illegal drugs into communities, that federal and local law enforcement will employ whatever means necessary to find and bring them to justice. The case highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies to securing communities and putting criminals on notice.
