A 34-year-old Newton, Iowa man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for possessing large quantities of methamphetamine, authorities revealed on January 10, 2024.
Cody James Darland Heinrichs was arrested after a traffic stop in Waterloo, Iowa, where police discovered over 1,200 grams of methamphetamine hidden under the hood of his vehicle and $2,000 in cash on his person.
Heinrichs was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty on August 1, 2023.
According to court documents, Heinrichs was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams to 168 months’ imprisonment. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
There is no parole in the federal system. Heinrichs is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin. The investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.
