A Pekin, Illinois man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine.
Cody Mammen, 32, of the 1300 block of Janssen Street, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The sentencing hearing took place before U.S. District Judge Joe B. McDade. The United States presented evidence that on March 2, 2022, Bartonville police officers performed a traffic stop on a car that Mammen was driving. The officers noticed a black fanny pack on the floorboard, which contained 108 grams of methamphetamine, 27.6 grams of cocaine, and $987.
Mammen was indicted on March 15, 2022, and pleaded guilty on May 13, 2022. He has remained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since March 2022.
The statutory penalties for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine are 10 years to life imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000 and a five-year to life term of supervised release. The penalties for possession with intent to distribute cocaine are up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000 and at least three years of supervised release.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF)’s National Methamphetamine Strategic Initiative, spearheaded locally by the DEA.
The primary goal of this initiative is to address methamphetamine trafficking and its attendant consequences by using a coordinated, multi-agency approach targeting the highest levels of drug trafficking leadership. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
