A federal grand jury in New Orleans, Louisiana has returned a four-count indictment against Cody Shaughnessy, a 38-year-old man from the Northshore.
According to court documents, Shaughnessy is charged in Counts 1, 2, and 3 with distribution of methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B). In Count 4, Shaughnessy is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B).
If convicted, Shaughnessy faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years and up to 40 years imprisonment, up to a $5,000,000 fine, at least 4 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
According to the indictment, Shaughnessy distributed 50 grams or more of methamphetamine during August and September 2022. Shaughnessy also possessed with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on August 25, 2022.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charging document and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, the Hammond Police Department, and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman.
