BISMARCK, ND – A federal jury in U.S. District Court has found Colt D. Schneider, 19, of Rapid City, South Dakota, guilty of bank robbery and use of a firearm during a crime of violence.

The charges stem from an incident on October 18, 2012, when two men wearing black ski masks and carrying guns entered the American Bank Center in New England, North Dakota, at approximately 8:20 a.m.

According to court documents, the men obtained money from a bank employee before fleeing the scene. An investigation by local and federal authorities led to the identification of Colt D. Schneider as one of the perpetrators.

Schneider and his accomplice, Johnner Joe Ward, Jr., were found to have worked for a construction company in Rapid City and had previously worked on a construction job in New England. Schneider was arrested on November 10, 2012 in Sarasota, Florida, while Ward was arrested on November 2, 2012 in Midland, Texas.

Ward pleaded guilty to charges of bank robbery and use of a firearm during a crime of violence on February 22, 2013 and is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26, 2013.

Schneider faces a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for the bank robbery charge, as well as a statutory maximum of life in prison and a $250,000 fine for the use of a firearm during a crime of violence charge.

Sentencing for Schneider has been scheduled for November 15, 2013 in U.S. District Court in Bismarck, North Dakota, at 10:00 a.m. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hagler is prosecuting the case.
