Jefferson City, Mo. – Brian Keith Davis, 55, of Columbia, Mo., admitted in federal court today to orchestrating a methamphetamine distribution ring that ended in gunfire, blood, and a cache of drugs and cash hidden in his bedroom closet.
Davis pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr., to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. The charges stem from a violent break-in at his residence on December 3, 2017, when a co-conspirator was shot multiple times during what Davis claimed was a home invasion.
According to court records, Davis told Columbia police that two masked men — one dressed in all black, the other in a green camo mask — forced their way inside after shoving the wounded man from behind. He said he heard three or four shots and saw his associate fall, bleeding from head wounds. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he survived.
The next day, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence and uncovered a five-gallon bucket in Davis’s bedroom closet. Inside: five packages totaling over two kilograms of methamphetamine, 390.9 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, and an additional 680.4 grams of cocaine. Also found: a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver and a safe containing $73,553 in cash — all of which Davis must forfeit.
Under federal law, Davis now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison without parole. He could be locked away for life. While Congress sets the maximum penalties, the actual sentence will be determined by the court, guided by federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors following a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence E. Miller and was investigated jointly by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Columbia Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
