COLUMBUS, Ohio – A chilling sentence has been meted out in federal court as Anthony Sims, a 56-year-old sex offender from Columbus, has been sentenced to 600 months in prison for the grotesque exploitation and raping of two minor girls. This despicable predator preyed on the innocence of these young victims, forcing them into commercial sex acts and subjecting them to unspeakable abuse.
Sims, who had previously been convicted out of Michigan, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually exploiting a minor and one count of sex trafficking a minor just days before his trial was set to begin. His crimes were committed throughout 2020, with the youngest victim being 12 years old at the time. Sims enticed her with marijuana and alcohol, holding her down during sexual assaults and forcing her to pose for pornographic photos.
His second victim, a 13-year-old girl, was also subjected to unimaginable horrors. Sims raped her while she was under the influence of drugs he provided, regularly holding her down to facilitate his assaults. He photographed her nude and forced her into sex acts with multiple men at hotels, selling pornographic images of her as well.
At the time of these crimes, Sims was a registered sex offender. The sentence imposed on July 8 by U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr., comes as a relief to law enforcement agencies involved in the case. Acting United States Attorney Kelly A. Norris; FBI Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola; Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force; and Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant all announced the sentence.
Representing the United States, Assistant United States Attorneys Emily Czerniejewski and Tyler J. Aagard brought this monstrous predator to justice. Sims’ conviction serves as a stern warning against those who seek to exploit the most vulnerable members of society.
