Assault Rocks Kenel, South Dakota
Kenel, South Dakota – Two men from Kenel, South Dakota have been charged with assault in a disturbing incident that has left the community shaken.
According to sources, Conrad C. Little Bear, 53, and Lavell M. Little Bear, 57, were indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2013 for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
The maximum penalty upon conviction for each count is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release; an additional 2 years of supervised release upon revocation; and a mandatory $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley is prosecuting the case.
Both Defendants were released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
The charges are merely accusations, and the Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
