KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A chilling conspiracy to murder Border Patrol agents has culminated in guilty verdicts for Bryan C. Perry and Jonathan S. O’Dell after a two-week jury trial held in October and November 2024.
Perry, from Clarksville, Tenn., and O’Dell, of Warsaw, Mo., were found guilty of their 2022 plot to murder officers and employees of the U.S. government. They also faced charges for attempted murder of FBI special agents, assault with a deadly weapon on FBI agents, using firearms in furtherance of a crime, and damaging federal property.
The investigation, led by FBI Special Agent Isaac McPheeters, involved a complex coordination between local and federal agencies across Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. McPheeters played a pivotal role in apprehending O’Dell after his escape from custody in October 2023.
U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price honored six law enforcement officers for their work on this significant investigation at the 23rd Annual Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee Training Seminar, held on Aug. 21, 2025, in Springfield, Mo.
The ATF also played a crucial role in reducing gun violence in the Springfield area, recognizing Special Agents Jerry Wine and task force officers David Schroeder, Justin Gargus, Eric Pinegar, and Evan Nicholson for their efforts in tackling gang activity and violent crime.
Perry and O’Dell are scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 26, 2025, marking the end of a dangerous chapter in the ongoing fight against violence targeting law enforcement.
