Todd Bussino, Attempted Robbery, Vermont 2026

⏱ 2 min read

Todd Bussino, a 42-year-old man from Rutland, Vermont, walked into a local convenience store on June 14, 2026, wearing a hat and mask, and attempted to rob the place with a box cutter. Bussino demanded the cashier hand over the money in the register, but the cashier refused and retreated to the store’s office. Bussino then tried to open the register himself but failed, and instead made off with a stolen beverage.

The botched heist led to a federal grand jury indictment on June 25, 2026, charging Bussino with interfering with commerce by attempted robbery. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 21, 2026, and was ordered to be detained pending trial by United States Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle.

If convicted, Bussino faces up to 20 years in prison. The case is being prosecuted by First Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan A. Ophardt, who commended the investigatory efforts of the Rutland City Police Department and the FBI.

Bussino is being represented by the Office of the Federal Public Defender. The trial has not yet been scheduled, and Bussino is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
