⏱ 2 min read

Stephen Lane, a 57-year-old man from Burlington, Vermont, was involved in a disturbing case of distributing child sexual abuse material. Between September 26, 2024, and October 9, 2024, Lane corresponded with an undercover U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) special agent, who pretended to be a 13-year-old girl living in Korea. Lane used social media and internet platforms to try to get the girl to produce and send him child sexual abuse material.

Lane’s actions didn’t go unnoticed, as the Army CID worked with the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations to execute a search warrant at his residence on October 10, 2024. A review of his electronic devices revealed that Lane was in contact with multiple people online, seeking child sexual abuse material involving teenage girls.

Lane’s guilty plea led to a sentence of 97 months in prison, followed by a 15-year term of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 assessment to the Child Pornography Victims Reserve and a $5,000 assessment to the Domestic Trafficking Victims’ Fund.

The investigation and sentencing of Lane demonstrate the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child sexual abuse material distribution. The case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation in protecting children from exploitation.
