Alabama’s Southern District Federal Court handed down a severe sentence for Joseph Dillon Mazingo, 30, of Bulter, who was found guilty of illegal firearm possession. The court record reveals that Mazingo has a criminal history, having previously been convicted of three burglaries in state court.
In October 2016, Mazingo entered a plea of guilty to the charges against him. United States District Court Judge William H. Steele presided over the sentencing and imposed a term of 37 months imprisonment, to be followed by a mandatory supervised release period of three years. Although no fine was levied, Mazingo is required to pay a special mandatory assessment of $100.
During his incarceration, Mazingo will undergo drug treatment, and as part of his post-prison supervision, he will be subject to regular testing for drug or alcohol abuse.
The City of Butler Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation into Mazingo’s crime. Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell represented the government in the prosecution of this case.
