Convicted Felon Caught with Firearm

A federal jury has convicted a Goldsboro man of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. William Earl Warren, Jr., 32, was found guilty of the crime after a lengthy trial.

According to court records, Warren led police on a slow-speed vehicle chase through the Westhaven Housing Neighborhoods in Goldsboro, NC, on July 31, 2020, after being pulled over for a stop sign violation. Warren eventually abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, discarding a firearm in a wooded area before being apprehended.

Further investigation revealed that Warren was on supervised release at the time of the alleged offense for a previous federal conviction for Hobbs Act Robbery in 2015.

Warren faces a maximum penalty of 120 months in prison when sentenced in September 2021. The Goldsboro Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon L. Boykin prosecuted the case.

G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle accepted the verdict.

Warren’s conviction is a result of a lengthy investigation and trial. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of convicted felons possessing firearms and the importance of community policing.
