Ronald G. Miller, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Kentucky 2023

Lexington, Ky. – In a hard-hitting blow to illegal firearms, 43-year-old Carlisle resident Ronald G. Miller faced justice on Thursday after being sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Miller’s sentence, handed down on the streets of Lexington, was 60 months in prison for his brazen display of a loaded handgun at the Blackberry Festival earlier this summer. According to reports, Miller was seen openly carrying the weapon—a stark reminder that even at community events, crime remains a persistent threat.

The plea agreement revealed Miller’s chilling admission: he knew full well that as a convicted felon, he had no business owning or carrying a firearm. His arrest was marked by a desperate attempt to warn his girlfriend of impending danger: “Go home and lock everything down,” he shouted as he was taken into custody.

But the danger did not end with Miller’s capture. A subsequent search warrant at his residence uncovered a cache of weaponry, including a rifle, pistol, magazines, and boxes of ammunition, further solidifying the authorities’ argument that Miller posed a significant threat to public safety.

Under federal law, Miller will serve 85 percent of his sentence, with an additional three years of supervision by the U.S. Probation Office once released from prison. The joint announcement of the sentencing was made by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; John Nokes, Special Agent in Charge, ATF Louisville Field Office; Chief Gary Kinder, Carlisle Police Department; and Sheriff Berl Perdue, Jr., Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

This case is a product of the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Neighborhoods” Program, which has been tirelessly working to reduce violent crime across communities. In Eastern Kentucky, McCaffrey coordinates these efforts in close collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
