Maloy Amador, a 44-year-old Morris County man, was sentenced to 288 months in prison for attempting to murder a federal officer, along with narcotics and firearm offenses. The incident occurred in August 2025, when Amador discharged his assault rifle at federal agents executing a court-authorized search warrant, striking one of the officers in the vest. Amador pleaded guilty to the charges in Trenton federal court. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
The charges against Amador included attempted murder of a federal officer, discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Amador was found to be in possession of 18 firearms, including multiple assault rifles.
Law enforcement officials condemned Amador’s actions, with U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer stating that attempting to murder a federal law enforcement officer is among the most serious crimes prosecuted by his office. Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Roddy of the FBI emphasized that the agency takes any degree of assault on a federal officer with the utmost seriousness.
The case highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers, with New York Director of Field Operations Frank Russo of U.S. Customs and Border Protection noting that one of the officers involved in the operation discovered bullet fragments embedded in his protective vest.
