Coren Clown, Failure to Appear, South Dakota 2021

A disturbing case of a man who failed to appear in court has come to a close. Coren Clown, a 29-year-old man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for his failure to appear in court on a charge of Sexual Abuse of a Person Incapable of Consent.

The incident occurred on February 2, 2021, when Clown failed to appear for his jury trial. This led to a federal grand jury indicting him on March 10, 2021. Clown later pled guilty on April 26, 2021 to the charge.

Clown’s conviction stemmed from his failure to appear in court, which is a serious offense. The United States Marshals Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.

As a result of his conviction, Clown was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

Clown was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.

In a statement, Acting United States Attorney Dennis Holmes announced the sentencing. The case is a reminder of the importance of appearing in court as scheduled, and the consequences of failing to do so.

Coren Clown’s case serves as a warning to others who may be tempted to avoid their legal responsibilities. The court system is in place to hold individuals accountable for their actions, and those who fail to comply with the law will be held accountable.
