Corey Gaddy Sentenced for Selling Fentanyl in Pinellas

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Corey Gaddy, a 31-year-old from St. Petersburg, has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a drug linked to two deadly overdoses.

In November 2023, U.S. District Judge William F. Jung handed down the sentence after Gaddy’s conviction on November 3rd of the same year. His co-conspirator, Shawn Rodriguez, was also sentenced in February 2024 to 12 years and 7 months for his role in the distribution network.

Records reveal Gaddy has been a supplier of opioids since 2017, with Rodriguez acting as a distributor in Madeira Beach. In February 2019, Gaddy was caught with heroin during a traffic stop by the Largo Police Department. He then distributed fentanyl to Rodriguez, who supplied it to K.E., leading to K.E.’s death due to fentanyl toxicity.

Despite knowing of the fatality, Gaddy continued his trade. In April 2020, while on bond for another charge, he sold opioids to J.P., resulting in J.P.’s tragic death two days later.

This harrowing case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Largo Police Department, with the FBI’s support as part of an OCDETF investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Dan Baeza and Lauren Stoia are prosecuting the case.

As drug trafficking remains a harrowing issue in Pinellas County, Gaddy’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the dire consequences for those who deal in deadly substances like fentanyl.
