JACKSONVILLE, FL – Corinthian King, 32, of Jacksonville, is headed back to federal prison for over eleven years after a routine traffic stop exposed a significant cocaine operation. Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan delivered the sentence this week, adding to King’s already extensive criminal history.
The bust originated with a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office traffic stop in April 2022. King was pulled over while leaving a Southside motel, quickly revealing a suspended driver’s license. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a digital scale dusted with cocaine residue, along with plastic baggies commonly used for drug packaging. But the real haul was hidden from plain sight: a loaded Glock 9mm pistol stashed under the rear passenger seat.
As officers prepared to take King into custody, they discovered a plastic baggie concealed in his pants. Inside, investigators found over 50 grams of powder cocaine, more than 40 grams of methamphetamine, and a cocktail of fentanyl and oxycodone pills. The sheer quantity of narcotics points to a clear intent to distribute, solidifying the charges against the repeat offender.
King pleaded guilty on September 21, 2022, but his legal troubles didn’t end there. He further violated the terms of his supervised release on April 25, 2023, adding to his sentence. Judge Corrigan sentenced King to 11 years and 8 months in federal prison. As part of the judgment, King is also forfeiting the Glock 9mm and its accompanying ammunition.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Kelly S. Karase led the prosecution, with forfeiture handled by Assistant United States Attorney Mai Tran. The Tampa Field Division of the ATF played a key role in the case.
This case serves as a stark reminder that Jacksonville remains a key transit point for illicit drugs. While the ATF and JSO continue to work tirelessly to intercept these operations, the constant flow of narcotics into the city presents an ongoing challenge. King’s sentence sends a message, but many more like him remain on the streets.
