Gulfport, Miss – A convicted felon from Pass Christian is behind bars after a federal court sentenced him to prison for possessing ammunition. Cornell Demidridous Smith, 40, was handed a 30-month sentence by U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr., followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of ammunition, announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Dana Nichols with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Smith was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
On February 3, 2018, Pass Christian Police officers executed a search warrant at the home of Smith as part of a homicide investigation. The officers found Smith at a table with bullets. As a previously convicted felon in Walthall County, Mississippi, Smith is prohibited from possessing ammunition.
Pass Christian Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams.
