Evaristo Coleman, Crack Cocaine Distribution, Texas 2024

Corpus Christi’s streets have seen a stark reminder of the drug trade’s deadly reach as Evaristo Coleman, a 37-year-old local, has entered a guilty plea for distributing crack cocaine from his apartment. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced the charges against the alleged kingpin.

According to reports, Coleman was selling both cocaine and its potent derivative, crack cocaine, from within his own home. It wasn’t long before authorities took notice following numerous complaints of drug sales at the address.

The investigation kicked off in January this year, leading to law enforcement surveillance that revealed a steady stream of customers purchasing illegal substances. In February, a search warrant led to a trove of drugs and weapons: over 100 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 300 grams of powder cocaine, and two 9mm pistols found in Coleman’s possession.

U.S. District Judge David Morales is scheduled to impose sentencing on November 20th, at which time the defendant could face up to 40 years for drug distribution and a minimum of five years for the firearms charge. These sentences must be served consecutively, meaning that if he has already been sentenced for any other crime, his prison term will be extended significantly.

Coleman’s conviction also carries a maximum fine of $250,000. Currently, the defendant remains in custody pending his fate.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Griffith is handling the prosecution.
