Cory Schultz, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Iowa 2021

A brazen methamphetamine trafficking operation in Iowa has been brought to justice, with a local man sentenced to a decade behind bars.

Cory Schultz, 38, from Eagle Grove, Iowa, was found guilty of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and distributing the controlled substance on multiple occasions.

According to court documents, Schultz and his co-conspirators distributed over 20 pounds of mixed methamphetamine in the Wright and Webster County areas from November 2018 through March 2020.

On several occasions, Schultz was caught on home security recordings handing over ounces to ¼ pounds of methamphetamine to other members of the conspiracy.

The residence used as a hub for Schultz’s methamphetamine trafficking operation was located just 1,000 feet from Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove, a protected location.

Law enforcement agents seized over ¼ pound of methamphetamine from searches of Schultz’s garage and vehicle, and he was also found to be in possession of a handgun during some of his drug trafficking activities.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence, with Schultz ordered to serve 120 months in federal prison and a 6-year term of supervised release upon his release.

There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Laboratory.

Schultz remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence.
