Council Bluffs Man Gets 78 Months for Gun Crime

A 26-year-old Council Bluffs man is headed to prison after being sentenced to 78 months for a firearm offense. John Allen Lindeman, Jr. was found guilty of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

Lindeman’s troubles began on November 19, 2020, when he fled from law enforcement in a high-speed car chase between Nebraska and Iowa. Deputies with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office eventually cornered him in a Council Bluffs parking lot, where he refused to exit his vehicle and attempted to reverse at a high rate of speed.

The arrest was the culmination of a long pursuit, with Lindeman dodging officers until they were able to apprehend him. At the time of his arrest, Lindeman was found to be in possession of a pistol.

Lindeman pleaded guilty to the charge in April 2021 and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey. His term of imprisonment will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement, crediting the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Council Bluffs Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the investigation.

This sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. The public should be assured that law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.

The investigation and subsequent arrest were a result of the dedication and bravery of the officers involved. Their hard work and commitment to justice are to be commended.
