Counterfeit Debit Card Schemer Sentenced to 30 Months
A 43-year-old Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a counterfeiting scheme involving debit and credit cards. Mohamed Fadiga was found guilty by a jury after a two-day trial in federal court.
According to court documents, Fadiga possessed more than 15 counterfeit and fraudulent debit and credit cards that had been re-encoded with the personal information of victims from different jurisdictions, but bearing his name.
The investigation into Fadiga’s activities was a joint effort between the Hobart Police Department and the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorneys Toi D. Houston and Maria N. Lerner prosecuted the case.
Chief Judge Philip Simon sentenced Fadiga to 30 months’ imprisonment and one year of supervised release. The sentence reflects the seriousness with which the federal government views counterfeiting and identity theft.
