Counterfeit Currency Kingpin Sentenced
A Tennessee man has been sentenced to three years of probation for his role in a counterfeit currency distribution ring. Cole M. Harris, 23, of Knoxville, TN, was convicted of conspiracy and transferring counterfeit currency.
According to court records, Harris was a reshipper in the United States for the distribution of Ugandan manufactured counterfeit currency. The currency was being sold online by an individual using the moniker Willy Clock. Harris also traveled to Uganda and smuggled the counterfeit currency into the United States.
Harris was sentenced to 36 months of probation, with the first nine months on home detention. He was also ordered to perform 250 hours of community service, pay a $5,000 fine, and make restitution of $120,710.
United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the U.S. Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their work in investigating and prosecuting the case.
Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Cole M. Harris, also known as Ink, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.
The case highlights the ongoing threat of counterfeit currency and the importance of law enforcement working together to combat it.
