Denver – A chilling tale of greed and tragedy unfolded as Destiny Salazar, 22, and Gabriel Orozco, 23, both from Weld County, Colorado, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a substance that would ultimately claim the life of a minor.
The couple, accused of selling deadly doses of the synthetic opioid online using aliases like ‘blues’ and ‘yerks,’ have been tied to a fatal July 24th, 2021 transaction. The pills were shared with a young girl, who tragically succumbed to fentanyl intoxication after taking them.
Salazar and Orozco’s sinister scheme involved selling the pills through cellphones, Facebook, and email, with Orozco frequently responding for Salazar on her account. They continued their illegal activities until at least March 2022 when they were apprehended during a burglary investigation. Both possessed distribution quantities of fentanyl at the time of their arrest.
Senior Judge John L. Kane presided over the hearing where the couple faced justice for their actions. Salazar will stand before him on October 21st, 2025, while Orozco’s sentencing is scheduled for October 23rd, 2025.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Greeley Police Department, Brighton Police Department, Weld County District Attorney’s Office, and the Weld County Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Brad Giles is handling the prosecution of this harrowing case.
