Crack Cocaine Kingpin Gets 20 Years
BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK – A Tompkins County man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his convictions for trafficking crack cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Shameek Halls, 31, of Tompkins County, New York, was sentenced yesterday for selling crack cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl on numerous occasions in Broome County in New York’s Southern Tier from 2018 through 2019.
According to court documents, Halls admitted to possessing firearms in furtherance of his drug trafficking crimes. On November 14, 2019, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and their partner agencies seized three handguns, an AR-15 style weapon, and ammunition from Halls.
As part of his guilty plea, Halls was also ordered to forfeit ownership of the currency, ammunition, and firearms seized during this case. He will serve a 5-year term of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force (BCSIUTF), the New York State Police Violent Gang Narcotic Enforcement Team (VGNET), and the New York State Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU). It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Grabowski.
This sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for those involved in the trafficking of deadly substances like crack cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations, and bring those responsible to justice.
Carla B. Freedman, United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, commended the investigative efforts of the FBI, BCSIUTF, VGNET, and SIU. She also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Grabowski for her work in prosecuting the case.
Janeen DiGuiseppi, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, praised the collaborative effort of the agencies involved in the case. She noted that the seizure of firearms and ammunition was a critical component of the investigation and highlighted the importance of community partnerships in combating drug trafficking and gun violence.
