PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A North Providence man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his role in a crack cocaine trafficking ring, according to authorities.
Michael Domenech, 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell, Jr. on October 8, 2013, for his involvement in the distribution of crack cocaine and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The investigation led by the Rhode Island State Police uncovered a significant amount of evidence linking Domenech to the crime. On January 17, 2013, police executed a court-authorized search of his North Providence residence, where they found five plastic baggies containing approximately 1.2 grams of crack cocaine, $1,400 in cash, and various items used in the packaging and distribution of drugs.
In addition to the crack cocaine, police also seized a loaded .22 caliber pistol and 17 additional rounds of ammunition. This evidence was presented to the court during Domenech’s sentencing hearing.
According to court records, Domenech was previously convicted of a felony crime in Rhode Island state court and sentenced to one year imprisonment followed by five years of probation. He was serving his term of probation when he was arrested by the Rhode Island State Police.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Milind M. Shah, who worked tirelessly to bring Domenech to justice.
Federal authorities are cracking down on those involved in the distribution of crack cocaine and other illicit substances, and this sentencing is a significant step in that effort.
Domenech will serve three years of supervised release upon completion of his term of imprisonment. The investigation and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
