Firkon James, Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, New York 2010

Rochester, NY – A notorious crack cocaine trafficker has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in distributing the highly addictive substance in the Rochester area.

Firkon James, also known as Roc, Maurice Patterson, Mark James, John Atkins, and several other aliases, was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of 280 grams or more of cocaine base.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, James purchased cocaine in New York City and transported it to an apartment in Winton Village in Rochester, where he processed the cocaine into cocaine base.

The defendant then weighed, broke down, packaged, and sold the cocaine base in various quantities. A series of confidential informant purchases led to the execution of multiple federal search warrants on September 10, 2010.

During the search, officers seized over 250 bags of cocaine base, a stolen 9mm pistol loaded with 9 rounds of live ammunition, 74 rounds of various rounds of ammunition, and paraphernalia for processing, weighing, and packaging of cocaine and cocaine base.

Four vehicles, including a 2005 Nissan 350Z, a 2005 Jeep Cherokee, a 2003 BMW, and a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, were also seized as part of the investigation. James was ordered to forfeit these vehicles, the firearm, and the rounds of ammunition.

The sentencing culminated an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer handed down the 25-year sentence, along with a 10-year supervised release for James. The defendant’s sentencing serves as a warning to those involved in the destructive trade of crack cocaine.
