Cranberry Twp. Woman Sentenced for Bank Fraud
A former Butler County resident has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and six months of home detention for her role in a bank fraud scheme. Jennifer Colamarino, 35, was ordered to pay $62,842.57 in restitution for her crimes.
According to court documents, Colamarino used a closed PNC Bank account to make approximately 94 fraudulent online payments towards her husband’s Allegheny Valley Bank credit card account from October 2014 through March 2015. She then used the Allegheny Valley Bank credit card to make numerous purchases at various locations.
The scheme resulted in a loss of approximately $62,842.57 for Allegheny Valley Bank, and Colamarino made no legitimate payments towards the credit card account during the relevant time period.
Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose imposed the sentence on Colamarino. Assistant United States Attorney Lee J. Karl prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Colamarino.
Colamarino will serve six months of imprisonment followed by six months of home detention, and will be under supervised release for five years. The sentence marks a significant blow to individuals who attempt to defraud financial institutions in Western Pennsylvania.
