A shocking crime has shaken the quiet streets of Rhode Island. Justin Mierisch, a Cranston man, has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, a serious offense that has left many in the community reeling.
According to court documents, Mierisch’s possession of child pornography began as early as April 28, 2015, and continued until September 17, 2018. During this time, he amassed a staggering collection of over 1,500 videos and more than 240 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The investigation, led by the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, revealed that Mierisch’s collection of child pornography was extensive and disturbing. The task force executed a court-authorized search of his Cranston residence, seizing his electronic storage devices and uncovering the scope of his crime.
A forensic audit of Mierisch’s property revealed the shocking extent of his collection, which included 1,477 videos and 242 images of child pornography. This heinous crime has left many in the community questioning how such a person could hide in plain sight.
Mierisch is scheduled to be sentenced on February 4, 2020, for his role in this crime. This case is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children and the severity of penalties for those who exploit and harm them.
As the community continues to grapple with this news, one thing is clear: Justin Mierisch’s actions have caused irreparable harm, and he must face the consequences of his crimes.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Denise M. Barton is prosecuting this case as part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a program aimed at stopping the exploitation of children.
