Child Pornography Charges Filed Against Cristian Dolores Munoz-De La Rosa
In a shocking case, a 24-year-old Mexican national has been charged with possession and transportation of child pornography in Texas.
Cristian Dolores Munoz-De La Rosa, 24, is facing a two-count indictment for his alleged crimes. According to the indictment, law enforcement discovered child pornography images on a phone belonging to one of the individuals being investigated for human smuggling near Carrizo Springs on June 6.
The charges allege that approximately 20 images of child pornography were found on the device. If convicted, Munoz-De La Rosa faces up to 20 years in federal prison as well as a $250,000 maximum fine.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with the assistance of Border Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney April Ayers-Perez is prosecuting the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Munoz-De La Rosa is expected to appear for his arraignment in the near future. An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of Project Safe Childhood, which marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and identifies and rescues victims.
