Crystal Lake, Iowa – A local resident was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy involving the dark web. Jeremy Nedved, 42, from Crystal Lake, admitted using the ‘dark web’ to purchase and distribute methamphetamine between February and September 2024.
Nedved’s illegal activities came to light when law enforcement intercepted a package containing approximately half a pound of methamphetamine at his P.O. Box in Crystal Lake. The package was part of a controlled delivery operation. Nedved retrieved the parcel, leading to his arrest on September 3, 2024.
The sentencing occurred before United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City, where Nedved received a prison term of 63 months and an additional three years of supervised release following his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
