Honolulu-based CEO, Curtiss E. Jackson, 72, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar investment fraud scheme.

Curtiss E. Jackson, along with his former wife Jamey Denise Jackson, 62, were found guilty of defrauding hundreds of investors out of $29 million in connection with Semisub Inc., a Hawaii-based company.

The scheme, which lasted over a decade, involved Curtiss E. Jackson making false claims to investors about the progress of the company’s prototype vessel, Semisub One. He also lied about having agreements with government agencies and a private investment firm to build and sell a fleet of Semisubs.

In addition to the prison sentence, Curtiss E. Jackson was also charged with witness tampering, obstructing an official proceeding, and sending a death threat to his former wife during the investigation. The threat was in the form of a link to an online video containing graphic clips from the TV series The Sopranos.

Jamey Denise Jackson, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, was sentenced to two years in prison.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and the IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI). Trial attorneys Matthew Reilly and Jennifer Bilinkas of the Justice Department’s Fraud Section, along with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Margaret Nammar and Aislinn Affinito, prosecuted the case.
