Cuyahoga Falls, OH – In a disturbing turn of events, Steven J. Woods, 49, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, has been slapped with serious child pornography charges. According to United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, Woods stands accused of receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The indictment reveals that Woods, between February 28, 2013, and April 4, 2013, knowingly received and distributed numerous computer files depicting real minors in sexual acts. The investigation turned grim on April 5, 2013, when law enforcement discovered child pornography images stored on Woods’ external hard drive.
The severity of the sentence Woods may face is yet to be determined by the Court. Sentencing will hinge on several factors unique to the case, including his prior record and role in the offense. However, it’s clear that any sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, which could carry a heavy penalty for the accused.
The Assistant United States Attorney Carol M. Skutnik is leading the prosecution against Woods. The investigation was a joint effort by the Cleveland Office of the U.S. Secret Service and the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge, not proof of guilt. Woods is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
