GREENBELT, MD – The gritty streets of Prince George’s County were turned into a scene of horror when Shaykh Abdul-Majid, 35, from Washington, D.C., was hit with federal charges for a series of armed robberies. According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, Abdul-Majid is accused of robbing businesses between June 29 and July 5, 2020.
In a chilling account of one heist, the complaint details how Abdul-Majid entered stores, brandishing a silver and black handgun, demanding money. The most violent incident involved a struggle with a store employee who attempted to disarm him during an attempted robbery on July 5th. Abdul-Majid fled with $200 in store funds after firing two rounds during the scuffle.
Detectives tracked down Abdul-Majid on July 7, 2020, apprehending him as he tried to flee on foot. A thorough search of his vehicle yielded clothing and weapons that matched the descriptions from the robberies. The suspect now faces a maximum sentence of 37 years in federal prison if convicted.
United States Attorney Robert K. Hur lauded the efforts of the FBI and the Prince George’s County Police Department in their investigation, which led to Abdul-Majid’s arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Hayes will be prosecuting the case against the alleged robber.
A criminal complaint is not a conviction, and Abdul-Majid is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
