Bank Robber Gets 27 Months Behind Bars
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a brazen daylight heist, Daisy Alaniz, 28, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, robbed the Bank of the West branch located at 1422 Carlisle Blvd. NE on the morning of April 20, 2013. Alaniz, accompanied by her co-defendant, Anthony Paloni, 51, drove to the bank, where she demanded that the tellers put currency into her duffle bag while holding her hand inside the front pocket of her jacket, suggesting she might be holding a weapon.
Paloni drove Alaniz away from the bank, and officers later located the pair at a truck stop in the vicinity of University Blvd NE and Menaul in Albuquerque. The officers were able to recover the money Alaniz stole from the bank, most of which was in the duffle bag she used during the robbery and the remainder in Paloni’s possession.
Alaniz entered a guilty plea to a bank robbery charge on March 24, 2014, and admitted robbing the bank on April 20, 2013. In her plea agreement, she stated that she drew a beard and mustache on her face to make herself look like a man before entering the bank.
Alaniz was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release. Her co-defendant, Anthony Paloni, pleaded guilty to a bank robbery charge in July 2013 and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release in October 2013.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Barth.
This is not the first time Alaniz has been in trouble with the law. Her co-defendant, Anthony Paloni, has a lengthy criminal history. The pair’s brazen robbery highlights the ongoing problem of bank robberies in the Albuquerque area.
As the community continues to grapple with the issue of bank robberies, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. The sentencing of Daisy Alaniz is a reminder that bank robbers will be held accountable for their crimes.
