Child Porn Charges Rock Riverside Elementary School
A disturbing case of child pornography has shaken the community surrounding Riverside Elementary School in Spokane, Washington. Dallas Michael Shuler, a school employee, has been indicted on three counts of child pornography charges.
According to a complaint filed by the FBI and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Shuler admitted to contacting minors online and offering explicit images in exchange for their participation in a Snapchat video that depicted minors engaged in sexual conduct.
The complaint alleges that Shuler told investigators he enjoyed looking at sexually explicit images of children as young as ten and had sexual contact with two juveniles at two separate times, recording the sex acts and distributing the videos online.
Shuler allegedly made multiple attempts to solicit other youth to meet him and engage in sex acts. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies worked together to bring Shuler to justice.
U.S. Attorney Waldref stated, ‘My office and our law enforcement partners stand ready to respond with thorough investigations, aggressive prosecutions, and determined advocacy in pursuing those who seek to abuse children, whether it occurs behind a keyboard or closed doors.’
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Shuler faces 30 years in prison on the charge of Production of Child Pornography, 20 years in prison for the count of Distribution of Child Pornography, and 20 years in prison for the count of Receipt of Child Pornography. If convicted, Shuler will also have to register as a sex offender.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca Perez and is being investigated by the FBI.
