Ballston Spa man Damian Quillinan, 43, was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography, marking a grim end to a years-long digital descent into child sexual abuse material.
The sentence, handed down today in Albany, New York, by United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino, includes a lifetime of supervised release and mandates that Quillinan register as a sex offender upon his release. The ruling reflects the severity of a crime rooted in the exploitation of the most vulnerable.
Quillinan pleaded guilty on November 13, 2017, admitting he used his phone on July 29, 2016, to download illicit content from the Internet. But the scope of his actions was far broader: between February 2014 and August 2016, he downloaded and stored more than 14,000 videos and images of child pornography across multiple devices in his home.
The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI’s Albany Field Office and the New York State Police, led by Special Agent in Charge Vadim D. Thomas and pursued under the authority of U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith. The probe peeled back layers of digital concealment to expose the full extent of Quillinan’s collection.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emmet O’Hanlon prosecuted the case, which was part of the Department of Justice’s national initiative, Project Safe Childhood. Launched in 2006, the program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to target those who exploit children online and to rescue victims trapped in the shadows of the web.
Quillinan’s conviction underscores the reach of federal cybercrime units and the relentless pursuit of offenders who believe they can hide behind encrypted drives and anonymous browsing. But in the end, the digital trail led straight to his door — and now, to an 8-year federal sentence.
