David Lee Cannon, 36, Sentenced to 10 Years for Possession of Child Pornography

PORTLAND, Ore.—David Lee Cannon, a registered sex offender from Portland, Oregon, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possession of over 200 images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Cannon, 36, received a 120-month sentence and a life term of supervised release. The sentencing comes after an investigation into Cannon’s activities, which began in February 2024, when law enforcement officials discovered he was collecting CSAM images during an investigation into his uncle. Cannon sought images from his uncle over Telegram, an encrypted messaging application.

A search of Cannon’s devices revealed additional evidence of CSAM material. Cannon is a registered sex offender after a 2009 conviction for possessing CSAM material.

U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford said, ‘The pursuit of individuals who exploit and abuse children is our highest priority. With today’s sentence, Mr. Cannon will spend the next 10 years behind bars, unable to victimize any other children.’

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) acting Special Agent in Charge April Miller said, ‘HSI leverages advanced technology and every resource within its legal authority to identify, investigate, and bring to justice those who possess child exploitation and sexual abuse material. Our unwavering commitment is to protect the children and ensure that those who prey on them are held accountable.’

Cannon was arrested in Milwaukie, Oregon, after HSI agents tracked his cellphone. He was charged by information on April 28, 2025, and pleaded guilty to Possession of Child Pornography on June 26, 2025.

The case was investigated by HSI with assistance from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mira Chernick and Paul Maloney. Federal law defines child pornography as any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) reports that child sexual abuse material is a serious issue that can cause long-lasting harm to victims. NCMEC is a valuable resource for victims, families, and law enforcement agencies working to combat child exploitation.

This case was brought in collaboration with Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice. The project aims to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse by marshaling federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children.
