Human Trafficking Ring Busted in Texas, Boston Man Sentenced to 70 Months in Prison

A Boston, Massachusetts man has been sent to prison for his role in a human trafficking ring that brought women to Texas for sex work. Daniel Bennett, 38, pleaded guilty on January 28, 2021 to the transportation of an individual in interstate commerce, knowing they would engage in illegal sex.

Bennett was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Sean D. Jordan. The sentence was handed down in the Eastern District of Texas, where Bennett was arrested and charged with human trafficking violations.

The investigation into Bennett’s activities began after one of the women he was trafficking approached a Dallas Police Department officer for help on November 2, 2019. The woman had been brought to Texas by Bennett, who knew that prostitution and commercial sex are illegal in the state.

According to court documents, Bennett drove two women from Boston to Texas on October 27, 2019, with the intention of having them engage in commercial sex. The women stayed at hotels in the Eastern District of Texas and engaged in illegal sex work in the north Texas metroplex area.

Thanks to the efforts of law enforcement, Bennett’s victims can now seek help and build a better life. ‘We know human trafficking is basically modern-day slavery and the victims often feel they have no way out,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. ‘Thanks to the great work of law enforcement, Bennett’s victims can now hopefully build a better, safer life.’

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Dallas Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller prosecuting the case. The sentence serves as a reminder that there is no safe harbor in the Eastern District of Texas for human traffickers.
